You can taste honey right from the fresh comb, you can taste royal jelly right from the queen cell, you can watch all the different stages of the bees' life-cycle. We learn everything about the bees, while we take part in the production of the bee products. During our visits, we get to know about the bees in real and later on we can observe the hives and the data collected by the beekeepers.

Bees, like many other spieces, need our help. Bees and other pollinating insects are currently improving the food production of 2 billion small farmers worldwide, helping to ensure food security for the world's population. Over one third of the food we eat relies on pollination by bees, either directly or indirectly. Many fruits, nuts, and vegetables require pollination by bees and other insects in order to yield fruit, and without pollinators these crops could all but disappear from grocery store shelves.

Even if you are not interested to adopt some bees, you can make a visit to our apiary. You will learn more about the bees and the power of pollinators!

Thinking About Keeping Bees

So, you’re thinking about keeping bees. That’s great! We think the world would be better off if practically everyone kept bees! We also think that you should understand, as much as possible, the tangibles of cost and time.

How Much Does It Cost?

Keep in mind that you could keep bees with no investment, other than hard work and skills for building what you need, and luck in capturing a swarm. Keeping bees with no initial cash outlay can happen, but rarely. For the majority of us, some purchases will be necessary. What you need for the housing and care of bees, the actual bees and the equipment that helps you best work with your bees and optimally manage them. Hopefully you need to buy bees only once. However, honeybees succumb to plenty these days—Varroa mite infestations, hard winters, wet springs, dry summers, Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), and plenty of beekeeper ignorance.

Adopting bees as a start

It is wise to try out something first, see if it suits you, before you really get into spending money, time and all the effort that comes with it. Time spent working with the bees is like a soul refreshing time, but you need to first make sure you manage with all the work and operations involved. Its not hard, but learning takes some time and for a starter its very common to make mistakes.
